Mr. Syed Hassan Ali Raza is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. His legal career commenced in 2009 after earning an LLB Honours from the University of London and an LLM in Commercial Law from Cardiff University, Wales, UK. His foundational legal training took place under the esteemed mentorship of Mr. Maingul Hassan Aurangzeb at the office of the late Mr. Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, Sr. Advocate of the Supreme Court. Following this, Mr. Raza dedicated approximately twelve years to Orr, Dignam & Co., one of Pakistan’s leading law firms.
Mr. Raza now leads the dispute resolution practice, representing national and multinational clients in contentious matters across national courts, including the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as well as before regulators and tribunals in commercial, corporate, and regulatory issues. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to commercial arbitration, both as counsel and increasingly as an arbitrator. Notably, he successfully enforced the first foreign arbitral award in Pakistan under the New York Convention, 1958. In 2022, he was nominated by the Islamabad High Court for mediation training by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London and has since served as an Accredited Mediator in various commercial disputes. In addition to his dispute resolution work, Mr. Raza offers transactional and advisory services (particularly, on matters pertaining to data protection, labor law and competition law), having advised prominent state-owned entities, micro-finance banks and fintech companies on significant transactions.
